The St. Andrew Alumnae Association (SAAA) Washington, DC, Chapter was formed in March 1990. Dahlia Gill-Cuthbert and Dr. Althea Morgan-Belcher, both Howard alumnae, are credited with getting the chapter started. With the immediacy of the Embassy of Jamaica and the increasing number of Howard University students who were graduates of St. Andrew High School for Girls, it was predictable that a Washington DC chapter would be formed. Dr. Pamela Johnson, wife of then Ambassador Keith Johnson and herself an ‘old girl’, fittingly hosted the Chapter’s launch at the Ambassador’s residence in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Since the first meeting, bylaws were established and filed in Washington, DC, and Maryland under "Articles of Incorporation Washington DCand Maryland Non-Profit Corporation." We are a 501(c)(3) Corporation.

Over the years since its inception many area alumnae have rallied to the organization and work to plan and produce fundraisers, networking events, and lend support to each other and to their alma mater. The Chapter has been ably led by presidents Debbie Lindo-Reed, Maxine Villiers Clark, Suzanne Graham-Agnant, Jessica Jones, Andrea Ewart, Hilary Reckord-Kirk, and Judith Grant. The current president is Althea Morgan-Belcher.

In the early years, the SAAA served as “home” for the small but growing group of past students in the Washington, DC, area who looked forward to networking opportunities, and fundraising events including get-togethers, mixers and dinner dance parties.

The primary mission of the Chapter is fundraising. We aim to attract past students of the school who will help us to support the school and its students through our fundraising efforts. We strive to promote and support the development of the students while strengthening alumnae commitment and involvement. We regularly organize fundraisers which benefit the continued growth and success of our alma mater and unite members of the Diaspora in the Washington, DC, area.

The Chapter maintains a membership of over 100 alumnae and through its efforts has contributed to the purchase of a school bus, scholarships for needy students, the SAHS Foundation (http://foundation.standrewhigh.edu.jm/), the SAHS Museum (http://sahsmuseum.tumblr.com/) and various building projects. Beyond the fundraising activities, it is the fellowship amongst the past students that give the SAAA its vitality and relevance… search every spectrum of society and you will find a St. Andrew past student. The Chapter continues to grow from strength to strength. Its membership is active and deeply committed to the school.
